Well, This Can’t Be Good (1-7-2015)

I’ve been going to physical therapy and doing the Barre3 Challenge this month trying to make my comeback from October’s surgery.  Finally…doctor’s approval!  Wednesday, while on the elliptical, I heard some lovely crunching noises.  Hmmm, I thought.  This can’t be good.  Am I feeling that from the elliptical or my prosthetic foot?  Being ever hopeful and optimistic, I cleaned and lubricated the elliptical rods, hopped back on and dang it, more and worse crunching. Sigh, I got off, gingerly walked around and determined, yes, I broke my foot.  What a crock.  Well, at least I have proof I’ve been working my tush off!  I broke a carbon fiber foot for pete’s sake!  Well, the mechanism anyway.  I can’t wait to tell my physical therapist! 🙂

Runway

Good grief that foot looks huge!

For a brief moment (or an hour) I felt so defeated and panicked!  Here we go just like 2014 again with everything breaking!  I just battled insurance for this foot in 2014!  Without it, I can’t cross country ski and I can’t wear anything other than gym shoes.  Not helpful in the snow and cold!  I sent a video to the prosthetist, told him my recent routine, and he agreed.  He could tell (via text) I was down in the dumps.  He replied, “What are you trying to be?  A normal, active person?!  Don’t you know amputees are supposed to sit around and do nothing all day?!”  They know me too well.  I love my prosthetists.  Shout out to Procare.  I swapped out feet (hello old friend Trias from 2007) and shipped my Runway back to Atlanta.  Hopefully it’s still under warranty.  Anyway, I am thankful to have the old backup.  Very, very thankful and lucky to have it.

To my credit, instead of plunging face first into a pint of Haagen Daz coffee ice cream and an episode of The Young and the Restless, I got right back on the workout wagon and did a hour of Barre3.  Yea me.  I still got my Y&R in though.  Definitely helps pass the time on the elliptical.

Y&R

I don’t care for this character, but I don’t mind some beefcake.  Hee hee!

I even made (and ate) lentil soup for dinner.  Lentil vegetable soup y’all.

I saw a glittery pink Instagram the other day that should be my motto this year:

Dear Me

Yes, let’s get started! That’s the workout endorphins talking, you know 🙂

  1. For what it’s worth, I’m proud of you. And you have the most amazing attitude ever! As I’m sitting here clamoring over the 4 hours of my life I’ll never get back from being at the car dealership this morning (minor repair)… I come home to find this post. I feel like a dope.

But so happily reading about you getting up, dusting off, and starting over! Across the miles, you’ve given me an attitude adjustment! 🙂 xoxo

  2. Sorry about the foot, but if you have to come to Georgia to get it, I won’t be completely sad. We miss you and love you!

If you are working out on a back-up foot, how can I say I don’t feel like running because I have to go downstairs to get to the treadmill?
